Rigby Cooke Lawyers has an exciting opportunity for an experienced lawyer to join its highly regarded and experienced Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for commercial litigation with energy and motivation to excel, technical expertise and a commitment to providing exceptional client service.

Working with a team of very experienced senior lawyers will afford the candidate a genuine opportunity to develop and enhance their skills while advancing their career in a supportive and positive work environment.

The position — duties and responsibilities

Technical expertise

  • Drafting and finalising advice, drafting court documents and applications.
  • Court appearances.
  • Reviewing legal research.
  • Adhering to the firm’s policies and procedures, particularly those in relation to client and file management.
  • Strong technological skills in use of legal research systems, internet research, document management systems, Word, Outlook, and time recording.

Client management

  • Exceeds client expectations in a timely, dependable, and consistent manner.
  • Shares knowledge and experience with colleagues and cross sells external referrers.

Business development/budget

  • Commercial acumen with demonstrated understanding of legal budget processes and is committed to exceed billable targets.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the importance of business development within law firms and the ability to expand client networks and referral partners.

Personal leadership

  • Attention to detail, good time management and organisational skills.
  • Conscientious and results driven.
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues, offering insights while being receptive to others’ ideas.
  • Show flexibility and adaptability, willing to support various team needs.
  • Builds positive relationships within the team and across the firm.
  • Is accountable and proactive and has insight into own leadership style.
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking and commercial awareness.

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of 3-4 years’ PAE with at least three years’ within a commercial litigation practice.
  • Bachelor of Laws/Juris Doctor.
  • Victorian Legal Practising Certificate.
