Rigby Cooke Lawyers’ Tamara Cardan, Special Counsel in our Corporate & Commercial and Tax teams has been appointed as a committee member of the Property Council of Australia’s Tax and Economic Trends committee in Victoria.
The Property Council of Australia received over 4000 nominations nationwide this year. Tamara was among the few with a successful nomination to the Victorian Tax and Economic Trends Committee which provides technical advice on Victorian revenue legislation, including stamp duty, land tax and tax design. The committee also focuses on issues relevant to the State Revenue Office, identifies economic trends relevant to property and assists with policy development that boosts the investment attraction of property in Victoria.
Commenting on the successful nomination, Tamara said:
“I am excited to join the Property Council’s Tax and Economic Trends Committee, where I can work with members to advocate for changes to taxes impacting the property industry. The significant amount of Victorian taxes impacting property (including broader land tax, and the Windfall Gains Tax) is prohibitive to investment in the State and I will work towards achieving meaningful reform of the tax system.”
Tamara is a commercial lawyer with over 16 years of tax expertise in all aspects of Commonwealth and State taxation. She represents a diverse range of clients including Australian and foreign corporations, high-net-worth individuals, property developers, small and medium-sized enterprises, deceased estates, and not-for-profit organisations.
The Property Council of Australia is the voice of the Australian property industry, championing a strong, thriving sector that leaves a positive legacy for all Australians. With over 2,300 member companies, the organisation facilitates advocacy, research, events, professional development, and connections in the property sector.
